Never Forgetting the Victims & Their Families
Activities

END DWI (End Driving While Intoxicated) was founded in 1994 (originally started in 1982 as a chapter of a national organization) to join with other responsible groups to lead the fight against drunk driving. Our NAME is our AIM!

END DWI sponsors a variety of programs designed to heighten public awareness of the DWI problem. In addition to our victim support services some of our other programs include...

MEMORIAL TREE GROVE & BRICK DEDICATION - Date to be announced

RED RIBBON CAMPAIGN - The rate of drunk driving fatalities and injuries climb astronomically at holiday time, so END DWI sponsors a red ribbon campaign to call public attention to the danger. Motorists are encouraged to display the ribbon in a visible place on their cars as a reminder to others to drive sober.

LEGISLATIVE ACTIVITY - The members of END DWI regularly meet with law enforcement agencies and state legislators to press an ongoing campaign to tighten laws designed to increase the punishment and rehabilitation of those convicted of drunk driving.

SUPPORT OF LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT - END DWI holds an annual Law Enforcement Recognition Dinner to honor law enforcement officers who have been outstanding in their efforts to prevent DWI. END DWI Supports police departments at sobriety checkpoints by attending the checkpoints and providing refreshments to the officers. Additionally, we participate in National Night Out in various towns throughout Bergen and Hudson County. (Click Here to view photos of the 2007 Law Enforcement Recognition Dinner)

HIGH SCHOOL PROM/GRADUATION PROGRAM - Teenagers think they are immortal, but learn otherwise all too frequently at prom time. To help persuade high school students and adults that drinking and driving don't mix, END DWI conducts programs with guest speakers and youth advisory board members (including Miss NJ National Junior Teen - Katarina) in high schools and houses of worship as well as at meetings of civic, social, religious and fraternal organizations that drive home the point that it is all too easy to change the joy of graduation to the tragedy of death or dismemberment. The County Prosecutor's Office shows crash simulations in the school programs to dramatize the dangers of drunk driving and END DWI members bring the organization's message to the students. Literature on the subject is distributed to flower shops and tuxedo rental services to enhance the likelihood that the message will be brought home to every graduate before the prom takes place.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH & EDUCATION - END DWI participates in numerous public venues to heighten the awareness of the tragedies caused by drunk driving. These include health fairs and school programs.
